Vasileios Garganourakis was born and lives in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. He is a graduate of Physics from the University of Crete and has graduate studies at the Imperial College of London in the area of Telecommunications.

Since 2005 he has been working in Greek public secondary education. He has served as Head of the Physics Laboratory at the Department of Education of the University of the Aegean (2007-2009), Head of the 2nd Laboratory Science Center (EKFE) of Heraklion (2011-2018) and Chairman of the National Union of Heads of EKFE (2015-2017).

He was highly involved in the student experimental competition of the European Union Science Olympiad. He was member of the organizing committees at local and national priliminary competitions (2012-2018) and three years as Country Coordinator of the Greek delegation in the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO 2016 Estonia, EUSO 2017 Copenhagen, EUSO 2018 Ljubljana).

His interests are in science teaching using experiments and ICT and in educational policy issues especially the school choice. He is also interested in computer science, photography and hiking through mountains and caves. In the gallery section you can find a selection of his photography series.
