Vasileios Garganourakis was born in 1976 and lives in Heraklion (Crete, GREECE). Since 2005 he has been working as science teacher in public secondary education. He is a graduate of Physics Department from the University of Crete and has graduate studies at the Imperial College of London in the area of Telecommunications.
During his teaching career, he has served as head of the Science Lab at the Department of Education of the University of the Aegean (2007-2009), director of the 2nd Laboratory Science Center (EKFE) of Heraklion (2011-2018) and President of the national union of directors of EKFE (2015-2017). Currently, he is working at the School of European Education in Heraklion.
He was highly involved to the student experimental competition of the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO, http://euso.eu/). He was member of the organizing committees at local and Greek national preliminary competitions (2012-2018) and he has been appointed as Country Coordinator of the Greek delegations in EUSO 2016 Estonia, EUSO 2017 Copenhagen, EUSO 2018 Ljubljana.
His interests are within lab-based science teaching and ICT in education as well as on educational policy issues especially the school choice. He is also keen on computer science, photography and hiking through mountains and caves.
